Whisky has a long and rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. Its origin is disputed, but the earliest records of distillation come from Ireland and Scotland. It is believed that distillation techniques were brought to these regions by monks around the 12th century. The first written mention of whisky comes from Scotland in 1494, where it was referred to as “aqua vitae” (water of life).
