Rum is one of the oldest distilled spirits in the world, with a history dating back to the 17th century. It originated in the Caribbean, where sugarcane plantation workers sought to utilize molasses, a by-product of sugar production. Through fermentation and subsequent distillation of this raw material, an alcoholic beverage was created that quickly spread among sailors, pirates, and colonists.
