The Balvenie Distillery was founded in 1892 by William Grant, a man who is now considered one of the most important figures in the Scotch whiskey industry. Grant previously worked in Glenfiddich and after gaining experience decided to build his own distillery. To this day, The Balvenie is unique in that it maintains traditional practices – from growing part of the barley itself, through malting on the floors, to its own team of coopers who take care of the barrels. This allows her to control every step of production and create whiskeys with an unmistakable character.
Balvenie 14 YO Caribbean Cask is first aged in classic American oak bourbon casks. Only after this stage is the whiskey moved to casks that previously contained a special blend of Caribbean rums. Master distiller David C. Stewart, who is behind many of the brand's iconic editions, introduced this finishing method as a way to enrich the flavors of Balvenia with tropical and spicy notes.
