Rum XO 1888 Copenhagen by A.H. Riise is a tribute to one of the most significant chapters of the given manufacturer – it is a blend directly inspired by the event of 1888 and its award, and at the same time a premium rum that carries tradition, craftsmanship and a careful selection of used distillates.
The A.H. Riise brand was founded by the Danish pharmacist and entrepreneur Albert Heinrich Riise (1810-1882), who worked on the island of Saint Thomas in the former Danish West Indies (now = US Virgin Islands). In 1838, he obtained the exclusive right to operate a pharmacy on Saint Thomas and also began producing alcoholic distillates (rums and liqueurs) as part of his pharmacy business. The brand therefore stands on a very old tradition – the production of rum with a pharmacy/recreation background and with the colonial context of the Danish administration of the islands.
The year 1888 is key for this particular blend, the exhibition Nordiske Industri‑, Landbrugs & Kunstudstilling 1888 ("Northern Exhibition of Industry, Agriculture and Art") took place in Copenhagen, where A.H. Riise (brand/company) presented its products and was awarded. Rum XO 1888 Copenhagen thus refers to this historical event – the name "1888 Copenhagen" recalls the exact year and place of the exhibition.
A.H. Riise XO 1888 Copenhagen rum is a distinct choice for rum lovers who want something more than the usual "spiced" or "Corsican" rums. It is a combination of history, craftsmanship and approachable power (40% vol.) - the ideal combination for sitting or as a premium gift.
