A.H. Riise XO Ambre d'Or Reserve is a rum that features a very rich, sweet and dessert flavor profile. It is inspired by the original recipe "Reserve A.H. Riise 1888 Copenhagen Gold Medal Rum" and is aged in sweet wine casks (sherry and dessert wines), which gives it a distinctly fruity and honey-rounded character.
The A.H. Riise brand has strong historical roots on the Caribbean island of St. Thomas (US Virgin Islands), where the Danish pharmacist and adventurer Albert Heinrich Riise worked in 1838. The rum blend “XO Ambre d’Or” is a premium filling within the XO series, which aims to follow the more legendary editions, but with a strong emphasis on smoothness, sweetness and sophisticated style. The brand is profiled as a combination of Caribbean distillate with European wine-maturation – i.e. a combination of tropical raw materials and barrels that previously contained French or sweet wines.
This rum is best enjoyed neat, ideally in a suitable tulip glass to capture the aroma, or with a drop of water or a few ice cubes – but beware, ice can dull the subtle nuances of vanilla and caramel. It is also suitable as a digestif after a meal or in intimate moments when you do not want a strong kick of alcohol, but rather a complex experience. Combining with chocolate (e.g. dark), dried fruit or naturally sweeter dishes can add additional dimensions. It is suitable to serve at a temperature of around 18-20 °C, so that the aromatic notes can stand out. This is a rum for moments when you want to treat yourself to something exceptional — not just a spirit, but an experience.
