Frapin Cognac House – Family Tradition and Prestige of Grande Champagne
The Frapin Cognac House is one of the most important and respected family-owned cognac producers in France. Its history, deeply rooted in the Grande Champagne region, dates back more than twenty generations and represents a unique combination of tradition, terroir and craftsmanship.
The Frapin family settled in the Charente region as early as 1270 and has been continuously associated with the cultivation of vines and the production of spirits since then. The official foundation of the Frapin Cognac House dates back to 1696, when the family began producing cognac under its own name. Thanks to long-term continuity and the transmission of knowledge from generation to generation, the house has established an exceptional position among traditional cognac producers.
Frapin owns extensive vineyards of approximately 240 hectares, located exclusively in the Grande Champagne area, considered the most prestigious cru of the Cognac region. The limestone-rich soil gives the grapes ideal conditions for the production of fine, aromatic and long-lasting cognacs. The Ugni Blanc variety, which is the basis of production, provides wines with high acidity and low alcohol content, ideal for subsequent distillation.
Frapin cognac production takes place entirely under one roof, from the cultivation of the vines to the maturation of the distillates. Distillation is carried out using the traditional method in Charentais copper stills, with the distillate left on the fine lees, which contributes to the fullness and complexity of the resulting cognac. Maturation takes place in French oak barrels, often from the Limousin forests, where the cognacs acquire their typical structure, spiciness and elegant woody notes.
Frapin cognacs are known for their richness, harmony and distinctive aromatic profile. Typical notes are dried fruit, vanilla, spices, flowers and fine wood, which develop into complex and long-lasting flavors as they age. Thanks to the exclusive use of Grande Champagne grapes, Frapin cognacs have exceptional potential for long aging and are characterized by elegance and finesse.
