Deau Cognac House

The Deau cognac house is one of the smaller, family-run producers that pride themselves on quality, precision craftsmanship and respect for tradition. Although it is not the oldest or largest brand in the Cognac region, Deau has managed to build a strong name among lovers of premium spirits over the course of several decades. Its cognacs combine classic production methods with a modern approach to design and taste, making it an attractive choice for the current generation of connoisseurs.

The history of the Deau house began in the second half of the 20th century, when the Tessendier family took over the tradition of distilling and maturing cognac in the French region of Charente. The family has deep roots in winemaking and distillation, which go back several generations. The Deau brand itself was created with the aim of creating a cognac that would represent the elegance, authenticity and craftsmanship typical of the Cognac region.

The distillery and cellars are located in the heart of the region, near the Charente River, where the humid climate contributes to the slow and even maturation of the distillates. It is the conditions of the local terroir that have a fundamental influence on the resulting character of the cognac. The grapes, mainly the Ugni Blanc variety, come from prestigious sub-regions such as Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne and Fins Bois, which are known for producing fine and aromatic eaux-de-vie.

Deau cognac is produced using the traditional double distillation method in copper stills of the Charentais type. This process preserves the purity of the aromas and enhances the fruity and floral notes of the distillate. Subsequent maturation takes place in French oak barrels, where the cognac acquires its color, structure and complexity. The maturation period varies according to the individual series, from younger VS to long-matured XO and special limited editions.

Types:

Deau VS - A younger and fresher cognac with fruity and floral notes, light vanilla and a soft finish. Suitable for cocktails and for beginners.

Deau VSOP - A balanced and round style with notes of dried fruit, honey, caramel and light spices. Ideal for sipping neat or on ice.

Deau Napoleon - A more complex cognac with longer maturation, more pronounced structure and notes of oak, nuts and candied fruit.

Deau XO - The flagship of the brand. A long-matured cognac with a deep aroma of chocolate, spices, prunes and fine wood. Very smooth and long finish.

Deau XO Black - A premium edition in a modern design, a rich and intense profile with notes of cocoa, coffee, vanilla and spices.

Limited and special editions - Exclusive blends from selected barrels or vintage cognacs intended for collectors and connoisseurs, often with longer maturation and a unique character.

The flavor profile of Deau cognacs is typically delicate, harmonious and elegant. The aroma reveals notes of white flowers, dried fruit, vanilla and light spices. On the palate, a combination of honey, caramel, oak wood and chocolate develops, with a long, smooth finish. Thanks to this balance, Deau cognacs are suitable both for drinking on their own and as part of luxurious cocktails.
